Doing the Happy Dance...

...did I happen to mention that two of my favorite people in the whole world happen to be moving to my town this week? Welcome to Hamel, Dave and Jo DeVries!!! That's my mom and dad (in-law, but they just seem like my mom and dad) and we are EXCITED! What day should we play Liverpool???

Did someone say Liverpool? Merseyside is my paternal homeland, and a regular destination to cure me of any latent Midwesternisms that Manhattan hasn't done away with, yet. My granddad was actually Lord Mayor at one time, and a member of the City Council for decades.

What is this "playing Liverpool" you speak of?

Liverpool, alas, has nothing to do with the city, I don't believe. It is also called Russian Rummy. A version of the game has been marketed as "Phase 10" or some such. But in real liverpool, everyone needs to get the exactly same combo to go down in each hand. It starts out with 2 sets of three, then 2 runs of four, then three sets of three, then 2 sets of three and one run of four, then 2 runs of four and one set of three, then the biggy is three runs of four or more *with no discards.* It is a hoot of a game - especially when you're winning. ;)
