Losing your voice at the Saturday All Saints service, and thus being unable to sing the liturgy and hymns on Saturday or Sunday. And having a funeral on Sunday and a Catechism service on Sunday - at neither of which I will be able to really talk. AND having to teach two units of Confirmation on Monday morning. I'm figuring that the voice will just be history for a while. Sigh. But not being able to SING "For All the Saints"? PURGATORY!!!!

My condolences!
Blame it on the Borghardt interview.

I've been told gargling with salt water may help. Of course the best remedy is to rest the voice, but you already knew that.
God be with you.

This is a feeling I know VERY well. During my last year as a Lutheran I'd spent my voice at Easter Vigil and could not sing "Christ Jesus Lay in Death's Strong Bands" at Easter Sunrise service the next day.
It was the saddest thing ever.
Oh, well, I get so choked up during "For All the Saints" and "Behold a Host" and "Jerusalem, the Golden" it is hopeless for many anway.
Brother:
Make that: me anyway, instead of "many anway"
I get choked up on those three, also, Paul! We sang them all today, along with "Blest Are They" and "Jerusalem my Happy Home" during the distribution.
Brother Will, I'm so sorry for you! If you're ever in the NY area, stop by, I'll fire up der orgel und ve sing dem together, yah? :-)
BTW-- I got the pneumonia shot a couple of years ago with the flu shot and haven't had a chest cold, laryngitis or bronchitis since! It may not help you right now, but it's a great preventative measure for Advent and Christmass!!
John,
Got my flu shot this year for the first time. HA!
Say, Cindi says I should ask you if you remember the composer of the piece we sang with Gerry: "Advent Carol"? It began "Drop down dew, O gracious heaven!" We've been looking for it, but can't find it. I have a little ensemble that I'd dearly love to sing that. Any clues?
Let me get back to you on that.
I lost my voice this mornign as well! It was shaky when I woke up and then by the tiem I got to the sermon oat the first Service it was pretty weak. By the time I was distributing the Sacrament it was very weak. It recovered some before the second Service I had today - but still weak. Then I had adult instruction class this afternoon and barely made it through.
I didn't get to sing "For All the Saints" either :-(
Bummer...
