Remembering...

It was upon this day back in 1986 that I was ordained into the Office of the Holy Ministry at the Lutheran Church of St. Andrew in Silver Spring, MD. There I had been also baptized, confirmed, and married. Pr. George Plvan delivered the homily. Pr. George Lobien conducted the liturgy. Pr. Richard Hinz was the ordinator. 23 years - seems both incredibly short and long. Odd how time does that, isn't it? But thanks be to God for the unspeakable privilege of serving in this Holy Office. May He continue to forgive my countless failures and sins, and still find some for use for me in serving His Holy Church. Glory to You, O Lord, for the noble calling, glory to You alone!

my 8th anniversary was on the 17th, though I mostly consider it on Father's Day, as it was that year. Herb's preaching still rings in my ears - "Just say the Word."

And shortly after that, I met this crazy, bald headed, earring wearing pastor... who'da thunk he and his wife would later be godparents to one of my twins????

happy anniversary, my dear friend. May we for many more years rejoice that the Lord has made 1 Timothy 1:12 (cf KJV/NKJV) true, counting us faithful by crediting His Son's righteousness to us.

Many years, Pr. Weedon!

Many years, Pastor Weedon, indeed!

I met George Lobien at the very beginning of my ministry in Laurel MD in 1992. I delivered a sermon in front of him during the week of Trinity Sunday as a very freshman pastor. He made a few insightful and encouraging comments. I spoke with him a few more times and came to admire him. I haven't seen him in a long while.

St, Andrews has changed alot in the years since you were ordained.

BTW, I too was ordained by Pastor Rich Hinz. August 1992 at Our Savior in Laurel.

Thanks, all.

Pr. Alms, yes St. Andrew has changed; we no longer visit there; it's not the same parish at all (nor in the same place, of course).

I was confirmed with Pr. Hinz' son - at the time the Hinz's were members at St. Andrew, and later attended Concordia Bronxville with another son of his.

Pastor Weedon,

May God grant you many years!

Having just celebrated my twelfth anniversary of ordiantion to the Presbyterate (June 18) I can certainly comprehend the 'where did that time go?' question that is running through one's mind as the years keep growing.

I am particularlly encouraged by your example of balancing family and ministerial commitment, as well as your reach into alternate mediums (well, Cyberspace in specific) to carry forth the Gospel.

Congrats on your anniversary, and I hope to be able to wish you many, many more.
