Why Harrison?

Listen to this. Pastor Harrison's words to the Fort Wayne community yesterday. That's why, folks. Sweet Gospel poured forth to a hurting community and irrepressible joy in the Lord. It's time.

I just listened, and I smiled, and almost jumped up and applauded! This was EXCELLENT! God's grace is sufficient for ALL of us!! Thanks for sharing, Pastor.

Truly a wonderful sermon.

The lack of calls is nothing new in the LCMS-- I'm not sure if you remember, but in 1986 I was one of about 20 who didn't get a call in April. A bunch of us took it hard-- if only we had a Gospel sermon in Saint Louis like this, it would have helped immensely.

From what I remember, the topic of 20 not getting a call never even came up in the sermon. It was a topic that they totally avoided, and the sermon was directed solely toward those who received calls.

By June, 1986, all of us were placed.

Staying on campus those extra months turned out to be a great blessing-- it was at that time that I sat at the feet of the Sainted Dr. Jaraslov Vajda, who led a week long presetation on hymn writing at the seminary. He personally gave me several hymns along with permission to use them at my ordination. Some have never been published. I cherish them.

Robin Leaver, the noted Bach scholar, also presented. I still possess the tapes from that presentation, treasuring them. God indeed turned a tense situation into a wonderful blessing.

Not sure if I remember? How could I ever forget that horribly conflicted evening? All the joy and all the pain and sorrow for dear friends - and you were the one I was most feeling the pain for because you were my closest friend without a call. Yes, a message like that that night would have been a huge, huge blessing.

Sorry...

Not sure where to post this question (ie. in which thread).

I used to be able to view my call placement year (2003) by just googling it. It was on the CTSFW webpage (archived). It appears that now the archive only goes back as far as 2009 (ie. not very far at all). Does anyone know where to access the older lists? Or have they been rendered inaccessible?

Those were wonderful words to the gentlemen at Ft Wayne who are currently without calls. And I also personally needed to hear them. I am currently on non-candidate status and I fervently hope and pray that the Lord grants that I return to active ministry. Hearing all this talk of a clergy glut has troubled my heart. So thank you, Pastor Harrison. The Holy Spirit spoke to me through your encouragingwords, as well as to these other men.
