The sacrificial death of Christ is a fact of the past, which abides only in its power, that is, in the reconciliation with God, which is its work. He, consequently, who partakes of the Lord's Supper worthily, that is, in faith, receives the virtue of the death of Christ, that is, the forgiveness of sins. -- C. P.
