Old Lutheran Quote of the Day

So this clause "thy will be done" contains a very profitable admonition that, while we live in the flesh here on earth, we should begin to lift up our heads and our souls. We should begin to desire and think of our life in heaven with the blessed angels. We should labor to begin our conformity with them here on earth. -- Blessed Martin Chemnitz, *The Lord's Prayer*

Wow, that guy really doesn't understand the Gospel. All that talk of what "we" should be doing and that we should labor. He must not have realized that that's not a very Lutheran way of talking.

Just to note: Pr. McCain is speaking sarcastically. The picture of laboring to live here the life we shall enjoy in heaven is very helpful. Sanctification is in essence nothing but practice for eternity!

This almost feels like a bit out of context, as if Chemnitz had nothing to say about justification. :)
