Tonight: Boar's Head Festival

at Peace Lutheran in south county. And my favorite lines from the Boar's Head Carol:

The mightiest hunter of them all
We honor in this festal hall
Born of a humble Virgin mild,
Heaven's King became a little child:
Caput apri defero
Reddens laudes Domino

He hunted down through earth and hell
That swart boar Death until it fell.
This mighty deed for us was done,
Therefore sing we in unison:
Caput apri defero
Reddens laudes Domino

Let not this boar's head cause alarm,
The huntsman drew his power to harm.
So death, which still appears so grim,
Has yielded all its power to Him!
Caput apri defero
Reddens laudes Domino

We went to our first Boar's Head Festival last night at Lakeland College (UCC affiliated). This was their second one.

It was nice... but they didn't have the congregational singing thing down very well. Plus the woman "priestitute" (my wife's words!) was creapy in the procession.

I got a bunch of Aristotle, but it's all paperback, and I don't think it will fell any boars on my way to Midnight Mass.

Not to mention Midnight Mass is getting harder to find than wild boars.

"Priestitute" is fabulous!! Can we just steal it, or follow the tradition that after you cite your source the first three times it's yours, or should we use proper academic citation?

You can have it. I'm not sure who I got it from... but it was someone at the sem (CSL).

Use at your own risk...

Hey, that's not very nice! She's our campus chaplain and a very good woman.

"Priestitute" may not be a very 'nice' thing to say about an otherwise 'good' woman (I'd contend that she's not good: to be good one must perfectly and completely obey the Law), but it accurately grasps whats happening when the Church abandons the teaching of Christ. In the Old Testament, when Israel stopped following God and began chasing after other gods, He accused Israel of whoredom. How is this woman's disobedience to Christ and obedience to the god of American popular culture different?

My wife said Caput Apri Defero sounded like Coffin Of Three Dead Pharaohs. Now I can't hear it without thinking that.
