Patristic Quote of the Day

If, indeed, only the good are to be loved, what will we say concerning God, about whom it is written: 'God so loved the world that he gave his only- begotten Son'? What good had the world done that God should love it so? Christ our Lord indeed came to all men, not only the wicked, but also those who were dead through original sin. But, even though we were such, 'He loved us and delivered himself up for us.' In this way He loved even those who did not love Him, as the Apostle Paul says: 'Christ died for the wicked.' With unutterable devotion He gave this example to the whole human race, saying: 'Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart.' - St. Caesarius of Arles, Homily 37
