Boring Health Stuff and Low Carb Commercial

So, I got the blood test stats from an insurance exam. And they show:

HDL 87
LDL 72
LDL/HDL ratio .83
Triglycerides 95

Why do I share? Because they are quite good. This is after SEVEN YEARS of low-carb eating. As in bacon and sausage and eggs and ham and BUTTER and cheese and, well, you get the idea. Don't buy into the current notion about what works to lower cholesterol without giving Atkins a whirl and testing out the results for yourself.

You got it, Pastor!

I went low-carb five years ago. Took off 54 lbs, settled in at -45lbs.

My numbers aren't as good as yours - but then they weren't that good to begin with.

But my HDL/LDL ratio is good, and my triglycerides are way up, so there you go.

I enjoy real butter, lots of eggs, and eat met at every meal. Lots of rabbit food, too, and, now that I'm at a good weight, some fruit and small amounts of very dark (71%) high-fiber chocolate.

The government food pyramid really is upside down. Breads should be the least of what one eats, not the foundation! Not unless one wants to be fattened up like a calf!

Thanks for your testimonial. Just wanted to let your readers know you aren't the only confessional Lutheran who has benefited greatly from adopting a "low-carb lifestyle".

When my wife & I start dieting again it'll probably be the South Beach diet or Nutrisytem. Didn't really care to try the Atkins although I know it's worked for many.

Anyway, despite my lack of exercise or healthful eating, my cholesterol has always been great. I attribute it to a life long habit of eating sunflower seeds. That or maybe genetics. :)

I go in for another panel next week, so we'll see how I'm doing still.

you must exercise too, right?

I see why you don't become Eastern Orthodox. There would be too many times you'd have to give up the "bacon and sausage and eggs and ham and BUTTER and cheese and..."

Just kidding, of course.

Thanks for the testimonial, Kantor!

And yes, Jeff, exercise too. Three days a week. Wilken nailed it: Old Adam hates cardio. But I do 50 minutes of cardio total and weights.

And Jeff, you nailed it! ;)

I keep trying to tell people that cholesterol doesn't cause heart disease, being in a pre-diabetic condition does, but since I'm not a doctor, no one will listen to me. :)
