...how MUCH you'd appreciate a beautiful "Book of the Gospels"! I figure that it can't be that hard in this day and age to produce for us the Gospels from the three year lectionary and the one year and include the Passion of Our Lord, beautifully bound, gold edging, and large. Let it cost $100 or so, but wouldn't you buy it? I'd love to have genuine Book of the Gospels to compliment the Lectionary we already use (but which is not so beautiful as the Altar Book - and that's an incongruity, surely?). That, or have your assistants start lifting weights so they can hold the Bible. ;)
Indeed! When my aunt passed into glory last year our family expressed a desire to purchase a Gospel book for the altar and Gospel processions. Our pastor would like it to match the lectionary, or at least be ESV. Alas, ESV does not produce a Gospel-only book. What you have suggested, Rev. Weedon, is exactly what we have been looking for. I agree that it shouldn't be that difficult to produce. My questions to CPH regarding this have apparently fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps your post here will prod the issue further! ;-)
It is not expedient for CPH to do so, but I'd love to see a NKJV Gospel Book.
I know, I know, buy one from the Charismatic Episcopalians, just like Weedon did....
What would be better is an Apocrypha in The Lutheran Study Bible. I read Pr. McCain's rationale and while I understand not wanting to rankle certain Lutheran consumers, it would be nice to see the Apocrypha in a Lutheran Bible once again.
You could also order a nice cover that will fit the LSB lectionary volumes. We ordered a nicely done festive fabric cover from Gaspard. www.gaspardinc.com
It works nice for processions.
I would recommend talking to Pastor Henson of Trinity Lutheran in Herrin, IL.. They have a very nice Book of Gospels.
My previous parish, Our Savior LCMS in Grand Rapids, MI, has a very nice NKJV Gospel book. It is the text of all four Gospels, not a lectionary. You might want to check with Rev. David Fleming to see where he got it, if that's what you're looking for.
I find the current cover for the lectionary quite misleading as did a few others in the congregation. It looks like the Pastor is holding up the hymnal. But someone in the congregation made a beautiful cover for it.
CPH please make a Gospel book!!!!
Rev. Matthew J. Uttenreither, SSP
This would be a nice addition to the LSB line.
Yes! Please publish an ESV Gospel book! My congregation could use a new one and would want an ESV but I've been looking around and nothing currently exists.

I'd love a Gospel Book from CPH, but only if it's NKJV. I simply find the ESV to be a much less accurate translation.
For the last several months, in my spare time, I have been trying to format the Gospels (ESV)with the hope of having a Gospel Book produced. I still have to work out what necessary hoops we would have to jump through in order to bind such a book (permissions, etc.) I am now into the Gospel of St. Luke.
If I say so myself, I am pretty pleased with what I have got so far, and hope that it will be reproduceable.
While it is ESV, I have included verses omitted from the standard ESV text, marking them with italics. Reasings with liturgical significance I have set off with a different formatting (e.g., Beatitudes, Lord's Prayer, Words of Institution, Magnificat, etc.). The Passion accounts in each of the Gospels will be in red letters. The Name Jesus and title Christ are slightly raised, captitalized and bracketed with the cross. I'm trying to format it so that it would fit a Gospel Book cover from Almy [Book 13 ¾ x 9 ¾] x1 ¼; Cover 14 3/8 x 10 x 1 ¾]. The pages are double-columned, Goudy Old Style font (size 14). It is fomatted with each verse indented, rather than by paragraph. So far, without the Gospel of John, and with Luke only partially formatted, it is already 192 pages. It might end up being too big for the cover mentioned above.
I don't know how this works, but if CPH would like to take over, or would be interested in encouraging me to pursue this, that would be fine with me. Pastor Roger James
That's my pastor! :-)
