From Our Savior's

The beautiful processional cross that Lutheran artist Edward Riojas designed for Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. Our Savior's sanctuary is full to overflowing with his fine work. There is a visual Te Deum Laudamus that enwraps the room, with every face of every saint directing our attention to the image of Our Lord. Here are some of the goodly fellowship of the prophets praising God:

Pr. Fleming gave me a personal tour on Wednesday. Wow! Higher Things has been the beneficiary of Ed's work in our CD of ecclesiastical art. It was a pleasure to meet the artist and his wife. What an amazing gift this man has!

How do I order that CD?

We enjoy Ed's work at Grace in Fairgrove, Michigan. What an enhancement to our sacred space! I find it almost impossible to not reference the artwork (The Resurrection Polyptych based on Revelation 7 and Schalling's hymn "Lord Thee I Love with All My Heart") during a funeral. I was sorry I missed Ed's tour at Our Savior!

LA,

Any chance you might post a link so we could see the pics? I've heard about that for years and have always wanted to see it.

I am so glad I finally got to see this awesome work of art, although I know the half hour I spent looking it over is not nearly enough time to see all that is so wonderfully depicted. Our group went over to Our Savior after the Divine Service yesterday before departing for home. We were all simply overwhelmed. What an awesome reminder to the faithful gathered around Word and Sacrament at Our Savior of the everlasting fellowship we have with all who sing the Te Deum with us. Great stuff! Awesome, really!

And, Len, I echo Pr. Weedon's wishes; I'd love to see pics of the artwork where you serve.

Some of Mr. Riojas' work can also be seen in the Singing the Faith DVD. I love it all.

I'd buy prints of work he's done, if they were available.

Thank you all for your kind comments. I must remind everyone that the Lord had a greater hand in the Te Deum. It is evident in the "haphazard" placement of images and words relevant to His death and resurrection -- they fell squarely at the baptismal font. Prints of my "Prodigal Son" may be purchased at eyekons.com
